The work of MMMLife community culminates 26th – 27th August 2010, when the first ICT4D Work Shop Camp and Festival is organised. The event takes place in peaceful surrounding in Northern Finland in the city of Tornio. The event is open for everyone.

In the spirit of ICT4D the theme of this years event is: MOBILE SOLUTIONS: WELBEING and WELFARE for ALL. There will be workshops, keynote speakers, case-study presentations and other activities as well as fun and festival style happenings troughout the event. Presentations, cases and keynotes will cover topics such as mLearning, mHealth, mBanking, mOffice, mBusiness, mResque and mAgriculture.

Program

Day 1 ”Sharing knowledge about the use of mobile devices ”

• Keynotes and cases
• Case competition presentations
• Dinner and visit to Cape East

Timeline:

The first day is devoted for keynotes and presentations followed by short discussions, to share knowledge, cases and experiences concerning the usage of mobile devices within the event theme. Day ends with festitivities and a dinner at Cape East (Haparanda, Sweden) where’s also Europe’s biggest Sauna. Cape East visit and dinner  are not included in the workshop-festival fee.

Day 2 ”Collaborative knowledge building”

• ”Learning cafe” workshops
• Presentation of workshop’s ideas & results
• Concluding remarks of the 1st MMMLife Summer Workshop and Festival

Timeline:

Workshops. The workshops or thinks tanks if you will, will take a deeper look into how mobile devices can be used in providing education and different services to people around the world. Some of the  the workshops will follow the group topics of our NING. Enrollment to workshops will be done during the event’s first day. It’s possible to take part in workshop as:

• Participant (no presentation, but can take part to discussions).
• Presentator, which means presenting a short case or idea in a workshop or think tank. Please provide a short summary of your case or idea when enrolling.
• Spokesperson. If you would like to be spokesperson of a workshop, which includes presenting a short summary of workshop’s work in the end of the second day and coordinating the work of the workshop, please contact Ville (ville[at]mkfc.se) after enrolling.

Price. The price of the Workshop-Festival is 60 eur (students 40 eur) including lunch and coffee on August 26th and 27th. Information how to pay, will be posted soon. Those who have registrated, will get an email concerning the payment, when we have sorted out the practicalities concerning payments.

How to get to Tornio:

• By plane from Helsinki: FinnComm Airlines have several flights per day to Kemi-Tornio Airport. With the earliest flight on 26th of August, you can make it to MMMLife Workshop-Festival.
• By train from Helsinki: One daily night train to Tornio East (Finnish railways)
• By  train and bus from Stockholm via Luleå and Haparanda (Train and bus schedule in Sweden and busses in Finland)
• By plane from Stockholm (for example SAS) to Luleå and by bus via Haparanda to Tornio
